Elijah's released a statement saying his remarks were "wildly misinterpreted." Yeah, I see that. The same quotes kept coming up, over and over, and they were oddly vague enough that I went looking to see if there was any more, because they sounded suspiciously like they'd been pulled out of context. Appears they were - Elijah says he was talking about shit he just saw in Open Secret, the documentary on the subject from 2015, and that he's never actually seen anything like that himself. I don't know how true that bit is (he could just be covering his ass), but I totally get that it was pull-quoted and misinterpreted. "Lesson learned," he ends his statement wryly. You can me both, sweetheart.

However, while I was looking to see if there was any more of that conversation floating around, I came across this in the Hollywood Reporter article about it:


[Corey] Feldman, the star of The Goonies and Stand by Me, spoke out in 2012 about his own experiences with sexual molestation. "When I was 14 and 15, things were happening to me," he told a British tabloid. "These older men were leching around like vultures. It was basically me lying there pretending I was asleep and them going about their business."

In his 2013 memoir, Coreyography, Feldman detailed how he and his then-best friend Corey Haim were subjected to sexual abuse during their years as Hollywood teen heartthrobs. During the filming of Lucas, Feldman writes, "an adult male convinced [Haim] that it was perfectly normal for older men and younger boys in the business to have sexual relations, that it was what all 'guys do.'

"So they walked off to a secluded area between two trailers, during a lunch break for the cast and crew, and Haim, innocent and ambitious as he was, allowed himself to be sodomized," Feldman continues, adding that the man is "one of the most successful people in the entertainment industry, still making money hand over fist."

Haim died of pneumonia at age 38 in 2010, his body failing him after years of devastating drug abuse. Feldman did not respond to a request to comment for this story.

Jesus fuck, I can't explain why this particular bit of information fucks me up so much, other than he just always seemed like the quintessence of sweet, slightly clumsy cute young kid to me. Hearing THAT SHIT happened to him? SPECIFICALLY that shit? And then he just assumed it was what was done? Because some UTTER FUCKER convinced him of that??? Oh, fuck me. I just... ARGH ARGH ARGH...

Bleah...yeah, I'll be with the nopetopus too.

But even if Elijah didn't intend for those statements to become huge sensationalized things, what he said did unearth stories like those of the Coreys and others, and got people talking about something that's been too silenced. Hell, until now, I don't think I personally had ever realized that sexual abuse might be the exact *reason* so many child actors end up with major behavioral problems later in life. I just figured fame generally was too hard to handle when you're young, and drugs were too easy to get, or something. Now I really wonder. And it's good that more of us are starting to be suspicious about what's going on, I suppose.

Yes, indeed. He clearly didn't intend the schtuss over his words, but I'd like to believe he was smart enough to know that just mentioning the whole thing to a reporter would stir up a stink about the subject itself. Because if he didn't realize that, then I don't think Elwood understands Teh Interwebz.

It's a slice of humble pie to realize I thought the same way, hon. It never occurred to me that maybe all these young lunatics act that way because they were brutalized by a system that serves them up like a fucking lemon pie. So not just OMG GIMME ALL THE DRUGS NOM NOM NOM. Jesus fucking Christ. Makes me look at Lindsey Lohan in a whole new light.

I know, now I'm thinking back on all the child-star disaster stories with a special new horror. God damn, what actually happened to them all? There are going to be more lawsuits one of these years and we'll start hearing... ick. Poor kids.

Gods, one can only HOPE. Now I'm in a rage, and looking FORWARD to Hollywood being violently ass-reamed by the judicial system. Give 'em a piece of their own medicine.

I looked up that documentary he saw and watched it last night. SERIOUSLY disturbing shit. Just... ARGH. Note: A small thing, but pretty infuriating, was the clip from The View, when Corey Feldman came on to talk about this very subject, and Barbara Walters was actually chastizing him for bringing it up and "destroying an industry". Holy FUCK, I hope that was out of context, and she was actually trying to say something else. Because if she really was trying to take him to task, FUCK YOU BABA WAWA.

Grr. Seriously, BabaWawa? It really has been infuriating to see people making it a business issue ("hey now, hurting the industry") or a political issue ("liberals in Hollywood! What did you expect?") when it's a CRIME issue, a right-and-wrong issue. Do the right thing, people.

Honestly, the saddest thing about that clip is that it hasn't destroyed the industry. Corey's been trying to talk about this for a while, but nobody wants to hear it. That's what's so horrible - NOBODY WANTS TO HEAR IT. They'd rather just brush aside the idea of kids getting raped because OMG MY COMIC BOOK MOVIES. It's fucking sick.
