Did I say Frodo was better?

Pumpkin and I were hanging out in my bedroom, looking at jewelry. Finally she declared we had to go to the kitchen and see if the butter we'd put out had softened enough to make the oatmeal raisin cookies we'd planned.
Can you see where this is going?
That's right. When we got there, we found Frodo on the kitchen counter, working his way through the stick of butter he'd torn open. He'd eaten HALF of it by the time we got there. I grabbed the butter away, tossed it in the trash and scolded him, shaking a finger at him and telling him he was VERY VERY BAD. He just glared at me, licking butter off his whiskers. So we realized we'd have to postpone the cookie making until tomorrow, as I don't have any other butter that isn't frozen.
Now, six hours later, he's curled up on the sofa where he's been since then. He's very quiet, he didn't want any dinner, and he hasn't moved much, just dozing. He doesn't want to get up, he just wants to lie there. I've checked him - his stomach is soft and not swollen, his nose is cold, and he just seems to have a stomachache. That's what you get when you overindulge! I just hope he won't end up pooping some slimy mess outside the litterbox.
Stupid cat.

So, I realized last night that I haven't provided an update on my Frodo!
He is doing well. Energetic and full of beans. Since I've gotten him off dry food and onto a diet of turkey meat, he's leaner and MUCH LOUDER when it comes to mealtimes, LOL. He pees fine now - no more random puddles. He still pees when he's startled, but now he gets a VERY SURPRISED LOOK and goes DASHING off to the box, after which he saunters back out like "Now, where were we?"
The only time he actually pees where he is, is when he's trapped and scared. Unfortunately, that's happening regularly, as I have to give him saline injections twice a week. So I wrap him in a towel before putting him in the soft kitty bed to keep him still. My BiL comes over and helps me with that, as there's no way I could control Frodo on my own - he REALLY REALLY DOES NOT LIKE being stabbed in the neck, poor baby.
Other than that, it seems he's okay now. I palpate his abdomen every day to make sure his bladder isn't backed up, but I've felt no evidence of anything wrong. I'm crossing my fingers that it was a one-time problem, though I know that's not very likely. But THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, my Fro is still with me and seems happy.
Now, to get Casey over to the vet for a flea shot. She spends most of her time outdoors these days, and the fleas have really been driving her nuts this summer. I think I'll be able to do that in a couple of weeks - just a matter of getting a ride over there and back, which can be tricky since I don't really have anyone willing to actually wait an hour for everything to happen. But I'll figure it out. :)

Gay Lions. No, really.
I knew this was a thing, but having pictures takes it to a whole 'nother level.

Midday Media Cafe - Yelling Cat
Monday, October 12th, 2015 02:38 pm.
LOL, I love this video.
Yelling Cat
Whenever I play it, the cats instantly freak out. I just played it now, and at the first sound, Frodo looked up with this "Who the fuck is THAT?" look on his face.
I'd really love to know what this cat is saying, because apparently every other cat thinks he's an asshole.

Here's a little something for you.

Remember those grabs I posted from the Marc O'Polo shoot? I took two of them and massaged them together to get this pic.
Now, my monitor is really old and skews dark, so there may be some roughness or badly matching bit in there that I can't see. If there is, please point it out to me so I can fix it.
Otherwise, enjoy this bit of meet cute. :)

...oh come, never come
Oh, come to me, beautiful rain...
-- Ladysmith Black Mombazo, Beautiful Rain
I've just spent a lovely 20 minutes sitting on my back steps, having a nice long smoke as I dig on the raindrops lacing my lemon tree like ropes of jewels.
Yes, we have RAIN!
At some point in the night, the sky opened up and we've been getting soaked since. The temp is coolish-warmish, which is very nice, and the air is full of that wet smell. It took a while to get Frodo to come in for his breakfast, because he so fucking hates to get wet, but once in he decided that's it for him, and is curled up on my bed doing his level best to forget the sky can even do that. (Casey, of course, didn't leave the house last night and so is now being annoyingly smug.)
I'm gonna cook up some bulgur for breakfast. That stuff is awesome. I've never been fond of oatmeal, so it's nice to find a cooked grain I can enjoy in the morning.
Am considering making some blackberry rugelach today, as I just got a tasty-looking jar of conserves at Trader Joe's. Since my brother's birthday was yesterday, I gotta make him a batch of cookies as my usual gift - baking comes in so handy when you've no money for gifts - so I'll take the opportunity to see if this stuff works for rugelach. I'm told I've gotten really good at making them. *buffs nails on lapel*
So begins the autumn.

Just in case your Kleenex box needs a good workout...
Friday, March 7th, 2014 02:39 pm.
She was very old, our old dame,
Our cat, 17, Meiko was her name.
On Friday she was not herself at all.
She lay, her face turned to the wall
Silent and subdued
Saturday, she did not touch her food.
On Sunday she paced back and forth
Across the bedroom floor
And did not brush our leg or purr
Or make a sound. We petted her
And she seemed very far away.
We knelt by the bed where she lay
And felt desolate and sad
And told her, Good cat, good cat
And then this delicate creature
Of an affectionate nature
Had to be carried outside
And taken for a short melancholy ride
To the vet's office where with gentle affection
She was given the merciful injection
As we stroked her and said,
"Good cat. Good cat." And she lay down her head
On our lap
And took her nap.
We miss her gentleness and grace,
The little eyes, the solemn face,
The tail flicking where she lay
In a square of sun on a summer day.
It's childish, to feel such grief
For an animal whose life is brief.
And if it is foolish, so it be.
She was good company,
And we miss that gift
Of cat affection while she lived.
Her sweet civility.
A cat has not much utility
But beauty is beauty: that's
Why the Lord created cats.
We miss our cat of 17 years
And if you'll sit down by my side
I'll scratch you up behind your ears
Until you are well satisfied
And then bring you a plate of fish
And figs and dates fresh off the tree
Or any treat that you may wish,
In our old cat's sweet memory.
Lullaby little cat, wherever you're at
May you lie in the sun and be loved by someone
May you curl up and rest, with a quilt for a nest
May you run, may you leap, and be young in your sleep.
