serai: A kiss between Casey Connor and Zeke Tyler (Monkeyboy)

Recently I've traded comments with [livejournal.com profile] spell about the annoyingly ubiquitous nature of Nicolas Cage. What is up with that guy? He started out quirky and charming and funny and fuckable, and somewhere around ten years ago he just kind of...melted. He got all lumpy and serious, and began going after roles that so aren't right for him.

Superman, for chrissakes. Could you find a worse casting choice? (Well, Crispin Glover would be worse. But just barely.)

The Wicker Man. Yep, they're releasing a remake, and he plays the Edward Woodward character. Maybe it's just me, but I cannot imagine him mustering the kind of self-satisfied fanaticism that made Woodward so great in the role.

Really, he ought to be playing Johnny Stompanado. It's right up his alley, and I'm sure he'd blur all the interest out of the character.

But BWAHAHAHAHA. You'll never GUESS what he's up to now.

It's a biopic. Real guy. 50's, 60's and 70's, about.

You know him.

Guess.

No, really, come on. Guess.

You'll never guess.

Heeheehee.

You wanna know?

Okay!

Put the Coke down first.

LIBERACE

Need I say more?

Hee, it was fun just to read your post up to the cut, but then I clicked and...

*LMAO*

But, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if he does a great job of it. I honestly hope he will. But yeah, I really know what you mean. *chuckles*

Unfortunately, I think he's become a dreadful actor, which was my point with this post. Pretty much every time I see him in a film (which isn't often, since I quit watching his films), my reaction is wondering why the hell Nicolas Cage is in this film, and not some actor who would be, you know, interesting. That hang-dog depressiveness and drawling delivery started grating on my nerves years ago. Cage was wonderful when he was playing larger-than-life comedic roles, as in Raising Arizona or Moonstruck, but when he got all Serious Dramatic Ak-TOR on us, any ounce of charm or attractiveness went out the window. I just find him tedious now.

I know what you mean. Still, I liked him in 'City of Angels' and he made me cry (in the good sense) in 'Leaving Las Vegas.' And he was deliciously over the top in 'Face Off.' I like him. I haven't seen too many of his latest movies though. I still want to see 'Lord of War.'

Yeah, but he redeemed himself in Lord of War - best work he's ever done, IMHO

Oh, dear Lord. But at least he won't be teh noble, and that'll be a change.

*sighs for Raising Arizona*

Oh, I don't know. I'm sure Cage will find a way to completely ruin the potential of this film. (What little there is, anyway. I mean, come on, Liberace?) Probably by giving it HeartTM. *shudder*

*cries for Moonstruck*

Good thing I left the Coke in the fridge - else I'd be cleaning out the inside of my keyboard and external hard drive right now.

I'm... just going to go to bed here on the fourteenth floor of the convention hotel and have some serious nightmares, now.

On a completely different topic, (my brain excels at tangents) I've always loved that icon of yours, for the image on it, of course, but also because of the quote. Only true geeks know that film. LOL!

That film is chock full of great quotes. This was just the one I really needed an icon for. ;)

I've gotta make one for Why? John Bigbottie, why???

I just started banging my head on my key board when I read about it. The idea makes my brain sprout all kinds of weird little curlicues.

I shall email you again!

Urg! He has power, so he gets to choose his roles, eventhough they'd be better served by some unknown actor.

As for the American remake for the Wicker Man...
I'd be much happier if Robin Hardy, the original director, got to make his re-interpretation of the story. It's called "Cowboys for Christ". Christopher Lee and Sean Astin would play in it!
I'd run to see that!

Oh yes, I know about CfC. I've been anticipating it since it was called Riding the Laddie, and I asked Sean about it at ORC this year. Sadly, it's in turnaround, and there's some doubt that it'll ever be made. I think it's because of the Fundie Christian element of the film - bad politics right now. And Hardy and Lee are adamant about that being in there. From what I can see, it's been taken out of the new remake. Probably to keep picketers away.

Hollywood can be so cowardly sometimes.

As the book was published a few days ago in U.K, or so I heard, maybe it will get popular, and this film can be made. I can only hope. It would be such a good role for Sean.
