Star Trek + Nine Inch Nails = FTW!


I posted this a couple of years ago, and just came across it again. It's really one of the best editing jobs I've ever seen on a music video. Not only does it show off a freakin' encyclopedic knowledge of ST:TOS, the fiddling they did with the image - blurring, warping and breaking some shots, and the sepia tone of the piece - perfectly recall the look of those ultra-old, skeezy 8mm porn film reels from the mid-20th century. It's scrumptiously sleazy!

Also, another little detail that I love: If you look closely, you'll see that every shot in the piece is taken from the original series, except for five or six very brief takes of sexually suggestive stuff (crotch shot, hands on naked thighs, etc.) HOWEVER, those shots are only used in the context of the fantasy images in Kirk and Spock's heads. (In the context of the video, of course.) Another videomaker might have used those shots as if they were from the series, which would have been cheating, in my opinion. But TJ&K kept it honest. And it makes the video that much more smokin' hot!
